Description

Formerly a pocket map and now mounted on linen, this large sheet shows a wealth of detail in the seceded Confederate and five border states during the American Civil War. Railroads, vital for the supply and movement of troops, are shown throughout and settlements are labeled in a typeface that corresponds with their size and relative importance. Bright circles identify engagements across seventeen different states and territories and don’t even include raids into Indiana or conflict further west.

Though the date in the lower right indicates the map was originally copywritten by C.O. Perrine in 1863 (he also produced a second example in 1864), circled sites in Georgia, South Carolina, and Virginia reflect later engagements. Engraved in Buffalo by E.R. Jewett & Company.
