This panoramic view of Boston shows the city and harbor from a fish-eye perspective on top of the Prudential Building. In the late 1950s, the company was at loggerheads with the city and state as it tried to redevelop a former railyard into a new complex for its northeastern operations. Despite questions of constitutionality, kickbacks, and inflated numbers, an agreement was inked and Prudential was cemented as a Boston landmark.

The company’s signature tower, still the second largest building in Boston, was completed in 1964 and is the focal point of the view. To help orient the audience and identify locations of interest listed at the bottom, a grid system is employed around the borders of the image. Well-known landmarks such as Bunker Hill, Old North Church, and the State House are shown with some detail, while the surrounding area quickly fades into obscurity.
