This linen backed pocket map presents two images of the northeastern United States in the early 20th century. The New England Commercial and Route Survey highlights “good roads”, railroads, and electric railways that comprise the extensive transportation network connecting Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Maine.

Proposed electric railway lines are also shown, reflecting the growth of the “interurban” prevalent throughout the United States until the late 1920’s. An index to towns and populations, as well as table of rail distances, are also provided.

The verso shows a detailed map of the state of Maine, issued at a scale of 10 miles to an inch and organized by surveyed townships. Heavy black lines show railroad routes in operation and under construction.
