Description
As cars became more affordable and local road systems developed into the 1920’s, automobile tourism became incredibly popular in certain parts of America. This guidebook, issued in 1924, shows several sightseeing trips across the Midwest and into Canada. Two routes, the Michigan Trail and Lake Erie-Niagara Falls Trail, are emphasized.
Fold out maps of each show the complete trip, with numbered legs of the trail referring to pages with the pamphlet. The accompanying text includes locations of interest, accommodations and local amenities, distance tables, and numerous inset maps of urban areas like Toronto, Chicago, Buffalo, Detroit, and Cleveland.
The compact and convenient guide, and its maps, were designed by Henry MacNair in New York and published by the Great Lakes Tours Association. An advertisement on the back cover shows other MacNair Motorways pamphlets from areas across the East Coast.
