Description
This informative pocket map highlights the interconnected network of the Boston Elevated Railway System in operation as of July, 1938. Thick blue lines show the route of the Rapid Transit streetcars, while trackless trolleys, car, and bus lines are represented with red.
This shift in transportation preferences (from rail to road) would become even more pronounced after WWII. An inset map in the lower left shows the same system running through downtown Boston and the top of the page presents an index to public buildings and places of interest. The verso provides a detailed operating schedule for each of the numbered lines within the image.
