Description
This 1852 U.S. Coast Survey progress chart details the comprehensive triangulation of the North Carolina coastline between Cape Henry and Cape Lookout from 1845 to 1852. Officially titled as part of the Section IV surveys, the map offers a detailed overview of the areas around Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds, tracking the impressive efforts of the survey under Superintendent Alexander Dallas Bache. An interesting variety of features are labeled throughout the image, including measurement stations, notable geographic features, lighthouses, and more.
