Description
Issued prior to the implementation of the U.S. Numbered Highway System (1926), this wonderful road map of three Michigan counties highlights the state trunk highway system that is still in use today. Centered on the city of Grand Rapids, the image shows the roads available or under construction in Kent, Ottawa, and Muskegon counties. Soft pastel colors differentiate between townships, while bold lines of various styles show trunk lines, county roads, and township roads.
A distance table between different urban centers can be seen on the left, while a summary of important Michigan motor laws is helpfully provided at the bottom. The map was published in Grand Rapids in 1923 as a joint effort from the Boards of Road Commissioners from Kent, Ottawa, and Muskegon counties. Copyright by John F. Nellist.
