Description

“This folder is issued by the Convention Bureau for free distribution to prospective visitors to Kansas City who travel by motor car. WE have necessarily emphasized the principal United States transcontinental highways which pass through Kansas City…These are shown in red. In blue there are shown all the principal highways of the country connecting with these trunk line routes.”

Kansas City, Missouri lies at the literal ‘heart’ of the Mid-West between Denver and St. Louis on this road map of the region. A bewildering array of road types – 23 in total (including those under construction) – are outlined in the legend in the lower left. The verso shows a similar highway map (though limited to only 10 road types) of the entire United States, as well as a map of the roads around the Greater Kansas City area.

Created around 1930 in Kansas City by the Gallup Map & Supply Company. Issued by the Convention Bureau of the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, with assistance from the Automobile Club of Kansas City.
