Description

This simple map from the late 1910’s highlights the route of the National Old Trails Road between New York and Columbus, Ohio. State outlines, stops along the route, and a few other scattered highways are the only information contained within the image, in addition to the location of the Summit Hotel.

Situated just outside Uniontown, Pennsylvania, the magnificent edifice boasted of grandiose views, superb amenities, and ‘two garages which can accommodate some forty cars.’

The map was published in brochure titled “Quo Vadis?” (Whither Goest Thou?), which includes a photograph of Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and Harvey Firestone ‘enjoying the Summit House hospitality’ from 1917.
