Colton’s dual image map showing two of the most important ports in the southern United States.

These finely engraved maps show the cities of Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina on the same scale, less than six years before the Civil War would erupt off the coast of the latter. Each critically important harbor town is colored by wards and identifies important buildings, local transportation options, and other notable features.

A small note in the upper left provides historical information on Savannah and the entire image is encased in a decorative border commonly used by the Colton family publishing firm.
