Description

This detailed navigational chart of San Diego Bay was published by the U.S Coast and Geodetic survey either during, or in the years immediately following, World War II. Dates within the image reflect wartime dredging that broadened the various shipping lanes in heavy use by the Navy.

Additional text identifies seaplane landing zones, depth soundings, anchorages, moorings, and prominent landmarks used for surveying purposes. The image includes portions of Point Loma, the city of San Diego, and Coronado Island; though construction on the iconic bridge connecting the last two appears not yet to have begun.
