Description

This large and colorful physical map covers a wide area of Central Europe including portions of modern-day Ukraine, Poland, Moldova, Belarus, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary. Vibrant shades of greens and reds highlight the dramatic elevation changes across the region, notably with the Carpathian Mountains in the lower left. The approximate depth of the Black Sea is also shown. Physical features, settlements, and other items of interest are labeled throughout the image in Russian, whereas the legend explaining the various symbols is provided in Ukrainian.

The map was created by Volodymyr Kubiyovych and M. Kulytskyi and published in Krakow by the Ukrainian Publishing House around 1950. Kubiyovch (alt. Kubijovyč) was a controversial geographer of Ukrainian-Polish background who collaborated with the Nazis during their occupation of Ukraine during World War II.
