Descriptive text on the verso details just a fraction of the dangers faced by stagecoach drivers delivering mail, freight and passengers faced when crossing the Rocky Mountains. Although described as “primitive institutions,” stagecoaches would continue to operate regular routes throughout the American West well into the first decade of the 20th century.
