Description
This vibrantly colored map of Missouri was published by the St. Louis Convention and Tourist Board of Greater St. Louis in the mid-1960s. Primary highways, geographic features, and a variety of attractions (many of which are subterranean) are noted throughout the image. Neighboring states are distorted, none more so than Illinois, to emphasize the highly populated adjacent regions like Chicago, Tulsa, Indianapolis, and Topeka.
The map was issued to promote the historic Onondaga Cave, about 60 miles from St. Louis and one of Missouri’s many tourist caverns. Text and photographs on the verso highlight the natural wonder, falsely claimed as being discovered by Daniel Boone.
