This somewhat rudimentary computer-generated view of the Himalayan Mountains was published as a supplement to the November 1988 edition of National Geographic – the 100th year of the venerable scientific organization. The image uses three-dimensional terrain models and the application of color to offer ‘High-Tech Land-Cover Mapping.’ Insets in the lower corners offer further geographic context. The verso provides a striking topographic overview of the area around Mount Everest.
