Though the waterway from which this map gets its name is underlined within the image, it’s difficult to distinguish exactly which is the Tradewater River. As one of the Ohio’s many tributaries, it meanders for approximately 135 miles; approaching Bellville and Blackford before entering the Ohio south of Caseyville .

The real emphasis is on the local railway system operating in southern Indiana, Illinois and eastern Kentucky. The Louisville and Nashville, Illinois Central and Ohio Valley Railways are all labeled.
