Description

This fascinating postbellum map of the United States presents the country split across lines that closely mimic the conflict fought less than two decades prior to publication. One side shows the northern states from Iowa east and Kentucky north, and includes three inset maps of Philadelphia, New York, and Washington D.C. The verso shows the southern states, including Texas, Indian Territory, and parts of Mexico. In the upper left is a profile view of the new factory, where presumably Boschee’s German Syrup, Green’s August Flower, and Green’s Ague Conqueror are produced.

Both maps feature boldly feature all three medicines, which are described in contemporary advertisements as treatments for a variety of ailments afflicting the lungs, liver, kidneys, and more. Published in Chicago by Rand McNally circa 1880.
