Description
This late 19th century map is centered on Narragansett Bay and shows the area from Providence to the Atlantic Ocean. Originally drawn by John Thompson around 1874, this is a later issue of the map with a spectacular border of contemporary advertisements. Jewelry (including a huge ad for a certain manufacturer of cuff links), stoves, fireworks and boots are all promoted in the image, and their dynamic imagery and font captures the eye much more effectively than the map.
Additional advertisements, including one for a druggist well stocked with opium, morphine, sulphuric acid, and whale oil are available on the verso.
