Description

This attractive hand colored map covers a large territory across the Midwest including Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan. It was issued as part of Jones & Hamilton’s Historical Atlas Of The World Illustrated With 52 Maps in 1875. At the of publication, the states depicted produced a significant percentage of the wheat and barley crops in the United States, earning the region the nickname ‘The Breadbasket of America.’

Vibrant hand color depicts various counties, with expansive examples in the northernmost regions reflecting sparse population and scattered settlement. Railroads, the primary avenue of transportation for both goods and people, are boldly shown.
