Description

This sweeping view, oriented to the west, captures the rolling countryside and tree-covered mountains between Albany, New York, and Montreal, Quebec. Bright red rail lines bisect the dramatic landscapes, offering easy access to towns, lakes, resorts, mountains, and cities.

Accompanying descriptive text and captioned photographs offer contemporary information about locations of interest around Lake George and Lake Champlain, with maps of each on the verso showing their available steamship routes. A deck plan, timetables, lists of accommodations, and recommended itineraries are also provided.

The view was designed by H.H. Green (signed, lower left) and copywritten by A.A. Heard in 1911. Published by the Poole Brothers in Chicago on behalf of The Delaware & Hudson Company and the Champlain Transportation Company.

Condition Description: Lake panorama occupying the lower half of a folding brochure. Heavy separation along fold lines has been repaired and reinforced with archival tape on the verso. Several small spots visible along the top of the image, as well as a 1" uneven closed tear in the upper right. Creasing and wear along old fold lines, with several small tears, wrinkling, and other signs of use around the outer edges of the sheet. Despite the defects, the image retains its vibrant lithographed color and presents well. About good condition overall.
