Description

Introduced in 1984 to celebrate the centennial of America’s first roller coaster, the King Cobra at King’s Island was the nation’s first thrill ride designed as a stand-up coaster from inception (others had been previously modified as such). Other updates to the park that year included Smurf’s Enchanted Voyage, Sunshine Turnpike, and the closure of The Bat, an innovative but mechanically deficient suspended coaster.

All of these and more can be seen on this souvenir map of King’s Island, undated but probably published in 1984 as a commemorative souvenir for attendees that season. Dozens of rides, guest amenities, shops, and attractions are individually illustrated and labeled throughout the image. The King Cobra and Winterfest (introduced in 1982) are prominently featured in inset views in the lower corners.
