Description
This detailed map of Kansas City, Missouri and its counterpart in Kansas was published in Chicago around 1911 by Rand McNally. It presents an engaging overview of Missouri’s largest city, situated at the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers.
City boundaries are shown in pink (note the proposed extension in the southeast); while parks, boulevards, cemeteries, and other public outdoor spaces are highlighted in green. Oddly, bridges within city limits are carefully accentuated with red. A robust network of railroads is shown in black – the city was the site of one of the earliest rail bridges across the Missouri River, cementing its status as an important transportation hub.
A variety of important buildings are labeled – a new Union Depot, Post Office, Convention Hall, Court House, and City Hall are several notable examples. Also of interest are named industries like the Proctor & Gamble Soap Works, Griffin Wheel Works, and Eagle Manufacturing Company.
