Hang ten, man!

Surf’s up with this great map of the eastern United States, designed by Allan B. Wright, Jr. and published in Los Angeles by Mountain and Sea in 1981. It presents all the finest surfing spots along the East and Gulf Coasts, from Matamoros in Mexico to Bar Harbor, Maine. Three legends provide insider tips on various locations in the Great Lakes, Gulf Coast, and East Coast regions. Examples include ‘semi-secret’ surf spots, seasonal variations, and descriptions of available waves.

The border is comprised of images of surfing scenes with corresponding captions appropriate to the ‘lingo’ – i.e. “clean juice at Palm Beach, Florida” and “dropping into some warm Sebastian juice.” Four inset maps anchor the corners and depict the surfing areas along the Jersey Shore, Pamlico Sound, Florida’s East Coast, and South Padre Island in Texas.
