Description
This vibrant wildlife map of Pennsylvania and parts of West Virginia, Maryland, and Ohio was published in the early 1940s to promote Duquesne Brewing of Pittsburgh. It was designed to appeal to the outdoorsmen, presumably also a beer drinker. Common game animals and fowl are shown throughout the image and in the borders. Hunting areas are designated as Good (A) or Average (B), while blue and red streams are stocked with trout and bass, respectively. A key along the bottom of the page identifies prevalent species across each county.
Text on the front panel (verso) proclaims, “Your continued demand for Duquesne Beer makes it possible for us to bring you this map and Duquesne’s Hunting and Fishing League Radio Program each Friday Evening at 7:30 over Station KDKA. Wherever you are ask for Duquesne Pilsener by name. Thank you.”
Wildlife drawings performed by Herb Chidley. Printed around 1950 by the Inland Lithograph Company of Chicago on behalf of Duquesne Brewing Company. Sold by J. Rogers Flannery Jr. and Associates of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The map is uncommon on the market and listed only twice in WorldCat as of March 2025, at the Pittsburgh Library and Penn State University. OCLC #67613255
