Description
This detailed plan offers an easy-to-ready overview of the first publicly funded university west of the Mississippi River, the University of Missouri. Streets and major facilities are labeled throughout the image, while seventy-seven additional buildings and locations of interest are numbered and identified in the adjacent legend. A significant portion of the grounds is dedicated to agricultural research.
The map is dated January 1940 and is accompanied by a sheet of Missouri fight songs with the 1945 football schedule (season tickets are $4.75). Just a few years later, returning G.I.’s would give the university it’s iconic nickname, ‘Mizzou.’
