Description
This important volume of early American history serves as the essential companion to Chief Justice John Marshall’s definitive biography of the “Father of His Country.” Published in Philadelphia by J. Crissy in 1832, the Atlas to Marshall’s Life of Washington represents a critical advancement in domestic historical publishing, providing the visual and strategic context necessary to grasp the scale of the Revolutionary struggle (without the significant expense of the larger originals).
Ten finely detailed maps, meticulously engraved by J. Yeager, cover broad regional theaters as well as specific military engagements. Of particular importance are Arnold’s march on Quebec, the detailed plans for the Siege of Yorktown, fleet actions at Boston and Newport, and the critical topography of New York. Troop positions, important geographic features, fortifications, and transportation infrastructure are among the various features labeled throughout the contents of the atlas.
