Atlanta’s take on Steinberg’s iconic View of the World from 9th Avenue.

Description
This amusing perspective puts the metropolis of Atlanta front and center – the focal point amidst a stylized view of the world. The Varsity, Fox Theater, Coca-Cola Headquarters, and other iconic landmarks dominate the image. As one travels further from downtown, the details become more approximate, with specific buildings giving way to clusters of bars in the ‘burbs, the Georgia Tech campus, and a ‘Great Mall Wall.’ Beyond the fortifications of commerce, the rest of the world is pretty much a blank slate, with only a few places represented via labels and/or symbols.
Published in 1986 by Harver Hutter & Company, Inc. of Ossining, New York. The work is clearly a riff on Saul Steinberg’s View of the World from 9th Avenue, perhaps the most iconic New Yorker cover of all time. The novel concept was ripped off by Columbia Pictures for the film poster of Moscow on the Hudson, leading to a copyright lawsuit that was decided in Steinberg’s favor in 1987. Hutter’s design closely mimics the original in terms of type, coloration, and composition.
