Description
“The map occupying the inside pages of this folder shows the ramifications of this great railway system and gives an unusually clear idea of how many and how varied are the resorts which pleasure-seekers can now find in their own country, and reach in a Pullman car.” – Text, verso.
This fascinating multi-part map emphasizes the breadth of options available to those Americans looking to flee the winter cold during the early 20th century. One-half of the page is occupied by a plan of the New York Central Lines in operation across the northeastern United States. Connecting railways and steamship routes facilitate travel further south, where dozens of health and pleasure resorts are noted with small red dots.
On the opposite side, maps of the Western Hemisphere and the continental U.S./Mexico show further warm-weather retreats. Insets show the Panama Canal, Hawaiian Islands, and winter resorts in Southern California. The verso offers photographs, fare details, a map of Pacific steamship routes, and brief descriptions of diverse destinations ranging from Montreal to Mexico City.
