Description
This striking recreation of the panoramic vista atop southern Germany’s Mt. Wank was illustrated by Hans Holzapfel and published in Munich by JRO-Verlag. The German capital is barely visible over the horizon (upper left), as much of the background is occupied by the rugged peaks of the Austria Alps. Various features, both natural and manmade, are labeled throughout. The town of Garmisch is nestled in the lush alpine valley, connected via a cable car called the Wankbahn to the summit. The grassy peak is topped by benches, a large crucifix, and a historic restaurant/mountain hut called the Wankhaus.
