Description

The Lake of the Ozarks was formed when the Bagnell Dam was constructed on the Osage River, creating (at the time) the largest man-made lake in the United States. In addition to generating hydroelectric power, the Lake of the Ozarks became a popular vacation destination for tourists throughout the Midwest.

This map is focused on the lake, but stretches the horizon to encompass regional urban centers like Kansas City, St. Louis, and even Chicago! This illusion of proximity coupled with the clearly identified transportation routes gives the impression of accessibility from nearly anywhere. The tourism theme is furthered by idyllic color photographs along the top border and gushing text about “Missouri’s Number One Vacation Attraction!”

The verso features a detailed fishing map of the lake and a number of indices identifying local amenities.
