Description

This uncommon promotional map presents a booster’s view of Fort Lauderdale during the postwar tourism boom that redefined the entire state. Primary roads are highlighted in red (automobile ownership was at an all-time high) and various attractions and locations of interest are labeled throughout the image. Restaurants, bars, and local attractions are noted, though two features of specific interest include the subdivision at Lauderdale Harbors and the departure point of the We-Kiva tours – No retracing!

The straightforward image was copyrighted by Vernon L. Click (named, lower right). Published locally around 1950 by the We-Kiva Jungle Cruise. A route map of the popular sightseeing boat ride is provided on the verso, flanked by photos of the exotic flora and fauna (watch out for gators!). Also included are a stylized map of downtown Fort Lauderdale and an extensive index of hotels and apartments.
