Description
“A souvenir booklet specially prepared for U.S. Army personnel in China, Burma and India. Pre-censored for mailing.”
This charming booklet, distributed to American servicemembers in the CBI Theater, attempts to capture the more positive elements from the WWII campaigns across the regions. Photographs of smiling natives, cartoons, and a fun pictorial map titled ‘CBI – 12,000 Miles from Main Street’ provide visual cues to memories that might otherwise fade with the passage of time.
The accompanying descriptive text reads more like a tourism brochure than a (semi) official military document. Yank’s ‘Magic Carpet’ was ‘woven and pre-flighted’ by the staff of Yank (CBI Edition), an Army weekly newspaper. Printed in 1945 by G.B. Dass at the Eagle Lithographing Company, Ltd. in Calcutta.
