[WWII Novelty Toilet Paper]

“Don’t Sit There, Do Something!”

This ephemeral World War II novelty reflects the harsh and racist attitudes of the American homefront after the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. A strip of toilet paper almost 3′ long is peppered with anti-Axis sentiment, beginning with the rather gross encouragement to ‘blackout a Jap.’ Further down is proposed a “Future Headline Mussolini’s Widow told Hitler on his Deathbed that Laval was Assassinated at Hirohito’s Funeral.” The inclusion of the French Vichy leader with the Axis dictators is also indicative of contemporary opinions.
