Double hemisphere world map showing various geographic principles, including the mistaken one of California as an island.

Description
This interesting world map presents a simplified continental outline which exhibits many geographic irregularities, most notably the depiction of California as an island. Physical accuracy wasn’t the point, however, as the numerous diagrams and labels indicating various principles of geography reflect.
Antipodes, parallels, poles, and climate zones are all detailed in one form or another, in a way still comprehensible to the modern eye. Published in Paris by Alain Manesson Mallet for the 1683 (first) edition of his Description de L’Univers.
