Amado Gonzalez was born in Mexico and moved to San Francisco in 1927, where he studied at the California School of Fine Arts. He worked as a muralist for the WPA through the 1930’s, and was eventually hired by the California Wine Advisory board to create promotional material for the state’s burgeoning wine industry. The posters depict a glass of red spread out with a classical feast, a bottle of sherry, and several glasses of rose.
