Description
This bound volume contains two reports on the wildlife of Glacier National Park – The Mammals With Notes on Physiography and Life Zones by Vernon Orlando Bailey and The Birds by Florence Merriam Bailey. Both authors were talented researchers who took a passionate interest in the natural world, traveling together (and separately) across the country to study, lecture, and make observations.
Their entries each contain descriptive text and photographic plates for the fauna in their respective fields. The book concludes with a large geologic map titled Life Zones of Glacier National Park. Bright color shows areas that share similarities in their plant and animal communities, reflecting an outdated system surpassed in clarity by defined eco-regions. The image also shows basic infrastructure like roads and buildings, geographic features, and contour lines.
