Description

This map, published by the American Automobile Association, incorporates a few “tricks” to encourage automobile tourism in Florida. The absence of a scale makes it difficult for the reader to estimate the actual size of the state. AAA instead elected to provide mileage distances between various points on the highway – a clever method of encouraging frequent stops at member hotels and restaurants along the way.

Illustrations of major attractions comprise the border of the sheet, while labels on the map identify their specific location; with the exception of golf courses and beaches (presumably these can be found everywhere). All of locations can still be enjoyed by tourists today, with the exception of Clyde Beatty’s Jungle Zoo (closed in 1945) and the First Mass at St. Augustine (ended in 1565).
