Where are the Yanks?
$75.00
Reference map for U.S. overseas deployment in 1943.
Description
Where are the Yanks? According to this map, U.S. forces are deployed on over fifty different fronts from Alaska to Ascension Island. It was issued as a supplemental “master map” to accompany a series of twelve articles in The Boston Globe about different theaters of operations.
Varying patterns show major language areas, though they can be considered rough approximations (at best). The first article was issued in January of 1944, and the map reflects the latest Allied gains as of late 1943; including landings on Corsica and the Solomon Islands. It would be several more months before National Geographic would theoretically need to add “Normandy, June 6, ’43.”
