Preparing for the worst in the Chicago area.

Description
“Chicago is nearer the enemy than Washington and the bomber route of Greenland and Canada is less well protected. Chicago is only a few hours flying time from Nazi bases in Norway. Yes, it can happen here.” – pg. 2
Those alarming (if somewhat overstated) words are presented, along with a map, on the second page of this air raid preparation booklet. It was issued by the Chicago Metropolitan Area Office of Civil Defense and published by Marshall Field & Company in 1942 (the company had over 4,000 employees in the organization). The small volume’s 40 pages include information on preparing for a bombardment at home or in public, fighting magnesium fires, detecting different chemical weapons, and much more.
