Description

This charming antique map of the Western Hemisphere was published in Augsburg in 1719 by Johann Walch. Recognizable outlines of both North and South America reflect over three centuries of European exploration and colonization. Numerous islands, real and mythical, are shown across the Pacific and South Atlantic. Important settlements are labeled throughout, while a handful of sailing ships and sea monsters harken back to the Golden Age of Cartography.
