Description
Blast off to Florida with this hilarious poster map, published by the Miller Brewing Company in 1983. A space shuttle (presumably the Challenger) soars over a whimsical depiction of the Sunshine State, sharing the skies with an aerial acrobatic team, possibly originating from nearby Tyndall Air Force Base.
Oriented with west at the top, the foreground presents beaches packed with a variety of colorful characters, including Santa Claus catching some rays. Iconic attractions throughout the state like the Everglades, Disney World, and the Florida Keys are represented with fun, abstract vignettes. Mickey is covering his face, maybe trying to avoid any concerns over copyright infringement?
Watch out for the sea monster in the lower left, luring unsuspecting tourists to the Bermuda Triangle! The bumper-to-bumper traffic is perhaps the only thing ‘accurately’ depicted within the image.
The colorful image was planned and illustrated by artist James Wagner while he was Director of Design at the Art Factory in Elm Grove, Wisconsin. Wagner created several similar state and city maps for the Miller Brewing Company during the 1980s, including Boston, Chicago, Washington D.C., Georgia, and North/South Carolina.

Condition Description: Moderate damp staining on the verso shows up in a few spots throughout the image, most evident in the left margin. The outer edges of the sheet show moderate wear, including minor loss in the lower right . Some additional abrasion and soiling on the verso does not affect the image. Good condition overall.
