Description
This is a charming real estate map of the city of Naperville, Illinois, published by surveyor Arthur Webster in the late 1920’s (North Central College was renamed in 1926). It shows property lines across the limits of the township and labels landowners of large parcels, major industries (including the Kroehler furniture factory), and prominent transportation routes such as streets and railroads. An index of various neighborhoods, additions, and subdivisions is provided at the bottom of the sheet, while an interesting mix of advertisements can be found around its border.
The cartographer, Arthur Webster, was a resident of the area who worked variously as a railroad engineer, county surveyor, and real estate agent. He was a driving force behind the increasing connectivity between Chicago and its western suburbs in the first decades of the 20th century. Blank on verso.
