Description

This is the first edition of Walt Disney’s Guide to Disneyland (though similar maps were issued earlier under a different name), issued in 1968, just two years after Disney’s death. It reflects significant changes from the park’s opening in 1955, most recently with the addition of New Orleans’s Square in 1966. The year after publication saw the opening of the park’s most popular ride to date – the Pirates of the Caribbean.

The five main park areas and their attractions are depicted with vibrant illustrations – Main Street, Frontierland, Fantasyland, Adventureland, and Tomorrowland. Disney’s Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain, two of the most recognizable rides today, are shown as under construction. The Disney Hotel, seen connected by the monorail in the lower left, was owned by the Wrather Corporation, which licensed the Disney name until the hotel was purchased in 1988. These changes, and others, provide a nostalgic look at America’s most famous amusement park.
