Description

This helpful guide/puzzle game to the early kings and queens of England was first published by John Wallis in London in 1788. This example is a reproduction created nearly 200 years later using an original in the collection of Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia.

Thirty-two separate cards (four rows of eight) provide biographical information about the monarchs from William the Conqueror to King George II. A portrait is shown of each, in addition to a list of remarkable events of their reign and names of eminent persons. A letter below each image identifies the royal house – Norman, York, Tudor, Stuart, etc. A handy reference for England’s youth at the end of the 18th century.
