Description

This antiquarian map of Egypt and the Near East was published around the turn of the century by the historic publishing firm of Carl Winters’ Printing House, Heidelberg’s oldest continually operating publisher. The title indicates the map presents the region around 1600-1500 BC, with an interesting variety of settlements and geographic features labeled. Modern place names are also given, where applicable.

The inclusion of cities founded much later, including Baghdad, reflects possible underlying political motives around the Berlin-Baghdad Railway. Question marks are adjacent to presumably unconfirmed locations.
