Description
This lovely compilation of architectural views and landscape scenes of north-central Kansas was designed by Hough & Ricker and published in 1887 as a supplement to the Clay Center Daily Times. The newspaper is rightfully proud of its charming little city established just 25 years earlier, highlights of which are presented in fine detail to subscribers.
Private industry, beautiful residences, important infrastructure, and fine public buildings are all represented visually. Notable examples include S. Langworthy’s Mineral Springs, the Chicago Lumber Company Yard, A.F. Dexters Water Power Mills, and the sumptuous interior of the Daily Times Office, and First National Bank. Two aerial views give birdseye perspectives of the bustling town of Clay Center – the geographic midpoint between Los Angeles and New York City.
