Description
This finely detailed bird’s eye view of Milwaukee, Wisconsin was published as a woodcut in the December 30, 1882 issue of Harper’s Weekly.
Based on a sketch by Theodore Davis, the image presents an attractive overview of the heavily industrialized city on the shore of Lake Michigan (back left). Factories, breweries, grain elevators and church steeples dominate the skyline, clogged with smoke in a particularly industrialized area.
