Wood engraving showing the Army of Occupation marching through Mexico.

Description
This attractive print shows a sweeping view near the city of Monterrey during the Mexican-American War. General Zachary Taylor’s Army of Occupation can be seen marching in the foreground, with a team of horses struggling to pull an artillery piece and its limber (note soldiers pushing from behind).
The image likely shows the troops shortly before the Battle of Monterrey, in which Taylor’s forces defeated the Mexican army in vicious close quarters fighting. The print was based off a drawing by Army Lieutenant A. Bully. It was included in John Inman’s “The History of the World”, published in Hartford, Connecticut in 1854.
