Description
This detailed overview of the situation in Vietnam and adjacent Cambodia and Laos was published in early 1968 by C.S. Hammond & Co. At the time of issue, the ongoing war was facing significant backlash in the United States, fueled by the recent casualties in the Tet Offensive and the request for additional American troops.
Both are included in the chronology of events on the verso, which details the history of the conflict since 1945. The verso also includes an economic map of Southeast Asia, as well as a broader political map of the continent showing the current status of the broader Cold War.
It’s also worth noting the interesting propaganda map to the lower left of the main image, which shows Freedom’s Struggle in Asia and highlights the prevalence of regional conflict between (ostensibly) democracies and communists.
