Description

Published in September of 1967 by the People’s Revolutionary Party’s Worker’s Congress Map Publishing House, this map is a fascinating example of Communist propaganda issued to the people of South Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

The primary image shows a country visually united, with the demilitarized zone identified with inauspicious symbols. Inset maps in the lower-left highlight the progress made in liberating territory (pink) from the enemy-occupied and guerilla zones (white) between 1961 and the present. Adjacent statistics emphasize the casualties inflicted and the material cost of war to the enemy.

The box in the upper right contains a portrait of Chairman Mao and a quote that reads, in part, “The oppressed nations must never entrust their liberation to the ‘wisdom’ of imperialism and its lackeys.”
